A closer look at some previously commissioned work.

DEATH IN DUBAI - BBC
Music / Sound Design / Mix
Music was only a third of this commission. Due to the secretive nature of the Dubai filming, audio in some segments benefited from extensive reconstructive sound design and repair. Then, working alone, nearly 7,000 audio clips were edited and mixed to help propel this important investigative journalism to an RTS award with the accompanying podcast also winning awards.
The brief required the music to weave African elements into the Trap style that the subject (Mona) favoured. Being a dialogue-driven narrative, much of the music was designed as underscore, to propel the story and emotions without interfering with that dialogue.
The situation changed often while the edit was in progress. This meant working closely with regular BBC Editor, Bettina Waked to produce appropriate cues as needed. Having one person working on all audio allows a rapid flexibility as well as efficient workflows and cost.
THE HYDE PARK BOMBING - Thread Studios
Music / Sound Design / Mix
A close look documentary at the 1982 bombing. This brief required sensitive handling while reflecting elements of military musical tradition to create a unique blend of impact and emotion. This project also involved complete composition, sound design and mix.
Abstract elements blurred the line between music and effects and built up to the moment of the two blasts while counterpointed by minimalist brass and woodwind touches. Thematic continuity helped the elements of the narrative cohere. Heightened senses were described by close, meticulous sound design (yes, coconuts were used for horses' hooves!)

SWEDISH GANGS - GITOC*
*Global Initiative against Transnational Organised Crime
Music / Sound Design / Mix
This important UN-linked group commissioned an investigative record of gangs in Sweden. Award-winning Director, Jamie Welham boldly made connection with members and leaders to tell a frank and dramatic story of crime and rehabilitation.
The music highlighted the Syrian majority within those gangs as well as the pressure of the urban environment with its disrupting social divisions.
Careful sound design also supported the visceral nature of the content with the final dubbing mix providing a broadcast-ready audio package.
COMMERCIAL COMMISSIONS - Various
Tailored compositions can emphasise emotive and motivating content in a way that off the shelf music cannot. To accurately complement video material and hit edits, library music can be time consuming to edit and expensive to licence as well as consuming in-house time and resources. Outsourcing to a composer or even just an experienced third-party music editor can streamline all these challenges to create efficient and high-quality musical accompaniment.
Sound design layered with location sound, mixed to broadcast standards also brings ideas to life, creating sonic punch and supporting overall engagement.
